Conference on the Digitalisation of Political Recruitment

Conference on the Digitalisation of Political Recruitment: Selecting our Future Politicians and Leaders

The social and technological context of representative democracy is rapidly changing. Therefore, analysing how parties recruit candidates and future politicians – and who they recruit – is essential to understanding contemporary democracy and improving representative outcomes. This is all the more important in a context of rapid technological and social change where digital platforms have the potential to transform political processes.

This conference focuses on acentral research question that addresses a significant problem faced by contemporary societies. That is, in an era of digital transformation, how can we re-think the way in which political parties recruit our future politicians and leaders?

    Inauguration on 25 February 2019

The University of Copenhagen invites you to the inauguration of the LEO Foundation Skin Immunology Research Center. The Center is inaugurated by HRH Prince Joachim. Scientific Symposium - 9:30 - 12:00 Holst Auditorium, Mærsk TowerThe inauguration is initiated by a distinguished symposium on skin and skin diseases. Programme: 9:00-09:30  Arrival and coffee 9:30 Welcome by Executive Director Niels Ødum, LEO Foundation Skin Immunology Research Center 9:35 Professor Tomas Mustelin 10:05 Professor Arne Akbar 10:35 Break 10:50 Professor Christopher Griffiths 11:20 Professor Matthias Mann 11:50 Conclusions and final remarks 12:00-13:00 Lunch (15th floor, Mærsk Tower) Keynote speakers: Professor Tomas Mustelin Division of Rheumatology, University of Washington Professor Mustelin currently focuses on elucidating the molecular underpinnings of rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, ANCA-associated vasculitis, primary Sjögren’s syndrome, and other autoimmune conditions. During a 10-year sabbatical in the industry, his teams discovered 24 new medicines, which entered clinical trials not only for these diseases, but also for psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, asthma, COPD, Crohn’s disease, and hematological malignancies. Professor Mustelin moderates today’s symposium and gives an overview of the molecular mechanisms, patient subsets (personalized/precision medicine), and therapeutic advances in dermatology. Professor of Immunology, Dr. Arne AkbarDivision of Infection and Immunity, University College London Professor Akbar’s is internationally recognized for his studies on mechanisms that control the differentiation and senescence of human T lymphocytes, and his group has developed skin challenge models for the study of immunity in humans in vivo. His research group consists of basic scientists and clinicians facilitating the translational aspects of his work. The benefit of this combination is exemplified by the award of a multidisciplinary MRC Experimental Medicine Grant (Akbar PI) to investigate if blocking excessive inflammation using a GSK drug can enhance immunity in older humans. This is what he will discuss at this symposium. Professor Christopher Griffiths, OBE MD FMedSciDirector of the Manchester Centre for Dermatology Research, Head of the Dermatology Theme of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Manchester Biomedical Research Centre, University of Manchester Precision Health and Psoriasis ManagementProfessor Griffiths has long-standing research interests in all aspects of psoriasis and skin ageing. He is credited with helping to construct the concept that psoriasis is an immune-mediated disease; this has led to the development of targeted, life-transforming, biologic drugs for the condition. Professor Matthias MannResearch Director, Proteomics, NNF Center for Protein Research, University of Copenhagen Proteomics and Machine Learning for Skin DiseasesProfessor Mann is a pioneer of studying the entirety of all proteins – the proteome. He has driven the field forward for several decades and applied it to a wide variety of biological problems. Here he will summarize proteomics technology, how it can be combined with other omics technologies and bioinformatics and how it can be applied to aspects of skin disease. Inauguration Ceremony - 13:30 - 15:30 Jerne Auditorium, Mærsk Tower(doors close at 13:20) The LEO Foundation Skin Immunology Research Center is officially inaugurated by HRH Prince Joachim in the presence of Minister for Higher Education and Science Tommy Ahlers and Rector Henrik C.
